LENZIE OLD PARISH CHURCH CHOIR

The Old Parish Church in Lenzie continues the tradition of maintaining a full four part choir in the 21st Century which leads the worship each Sunday. We are fortunate to have church members who wish to make a musical contribution week by week and enjoy the fellowship generatedboth at Choir Practice and at Sunday Services.

In years past the choir has competed at the Glasgow Music Festival in the Church Choir Class and were successful in gaining the Presbytery of Glasgow Trophy.

Currently the Choir numbers are holding steady at around 16 to 18 voices and are led by a two manual pipe organ built by Connacher & Company of Huddersfield and installed in 1875.

We practice on Tuesday evenings from September till April under the guidance of our Organist, Jane Stirling. Jane devotes a great deal of time in gathering and choosing suitable anthems to sing each Sunday to supplement the Praise List, which is drawn principally from the 4th edition of the Church Hymnary and Junior Praise.

Our weekly anthems cover a wide spectrum of musical styles ranging from 16th century to contemporary composers which we hope satisfy a wide range of tastes.

Some years ago the choir became affiliated to The Royal School of Church Music which has allowed us access to Choral Workshops to learn more about singing technique and also obtain music at discounted rates.

As always, we warmly welcome new members who can be assured of a friendly greeting and a rewarding experience.
